Improves safety at sea with an app and a 24/7 emergency response center

Norseye AS has developed an innovative emergency preparedness and safety management system for commercial vessels. The aim is to improve safety and preparedness, so that everyone who works at sea gets safely home from work.
The Norwegian Maritime Authority registered a total of 534 accidents on commercial vessels in Norway in 2023. Of these, 10 resulted in fatalities.
— If those who are supposed to support, help and rescue the crew have access to all the information they need about the vessel, such as rutines, logbooks and emergency data, they can to their job faster and safer, explains the CEO of Norseye, Sidsel Sæterøy.
Continuous monitoring of vessels
The new safety management system from Norseye is both digital and operational; the system combines an app solution with a 24/7 staffed emergency response center.
— Our emergency response center monitors the vessels continuously and offers support in the event of incidents and accidents – both to the crew, shipping company and rescue vessel, explains Sidsel.
All the information about the vessels – such as maintenance routines, electronic logbooks, deviation system, risk assessment, preparedness data and other procedures – is available to the emergency response center in the digital system.
— The emergency response center thus has access to all data about the vessel that could be decisive in the event of an accident, explains Sidsel.
Nominated for the Innovation Award 2024
For its new emergency preparedness and safety management system, Norseye has been nominated for the Innovation Award, which is awarded during Nor-Fishing 2024.
— The nomination confirms that it is not just us and our customers who see the importance of the system we have developed. Nor-Fishing is an institution in the industry and a hugely important arena for showcasing new technology. So getting this nomination really means everything to us, says Sidsel.
Norseye App – all in one place and great availability
The digital system is made available to crew, skipper and shipping company in the user-friendly Norseye app. Routines and all relevant data about the vessel are logged here.
— The app collects everything you need in one place, so it’s easier for vessels to meet the necessary safety requirements, without spending too much time, explains Ingvild Sæterøy, project manager at Norseye.
— In the app, the crew find, for example, proposals for procedures and risk assessments that are updated continuously in accordance with rule changes, which they can easily implement as safety routines on board. They also log everything inside the app, so that all information and history is in one place.
The app and system are available for all types of vessels, from smaller barges to large shipping fleets. The app can be used on both smartphones and other devices, and has been developed in line with regulations on safety management and the ISM code.
Quick access to necessary information
On board many vessels, the safety management is still gathered in a physical folder in the wheelhouse.
— If an accident occurs, it is crucial for the rescue team to act quickly and know what they encounter at the scene of the accident, in order to carry out the most efficient and safe rescue operation possible. If the vessel keeps logs and documentation physically on the boat, it will be a bit like working blindly for the rescue crew, explains Ingvild.
— On the other hand, if the vessel has stored the information digitally in the Norseye app, our emergency response center can easily and quickly find and pass on the necessary information. That, in turn, can help save lives.
A decisive intermediate link
One of the founders of Norseye, Terje Rødahl, has a background in the Norwegian Coastal Administration and the Norwegian Home Guard, and has extensive experience with rescue operations at sea.
— Terje has rescued a lot of people from the sea and gotten them home to their families, but he has also experienced being too late. Of course, that leaves traces that never disappear, says Sidsel.
— Together with colleagues at Norseye, he has delved into how we can contribute to more people being saved. When every second counts, having an intermediary like us at your back can be decisive. The skilled people at the emergency response center take control of the situation – and are available for assistance 24/7, every day of the year.
