From contract at the exhibition to completed longliner

During Nor-Fishing 2024, Maritime Montering signed a major contract with Båtbygg to outfit the longliner Austral Odyssey. The vessel has since been delivered, christened and put into service for Australian operator Austral Fisheries — and Maritime Montering is back at Nor-Fishing, this time with a new furniture collection.
Maritime Montering took full responsibility for the interior outfitting of the vessel – from crew quarters and wheelhouse to technical areas, as well as cladding in the cargo hold and fish processing area. The vessel was built at Båtbygg in Måløy.
— We supplied everything from flooring, insulation and top coating to wall panels, ceilings, hard and soft furnishings, and bathrooms. All areas were outfitted by us from bare steel to finished product, except for electrical, piping and ventilation, says Marte Haugsbakk, Head of Sales at Maritime Montering.
— I am particularly proud of the bridge and the technical areas. The project also gave us valuable experience with fish processing facilities, further strengthening our technical capability for this type of work, says Piotr Labudda, Project Manager at Maritime Montering and responsible for the Austral Odyssey project.

An interior designed around the crew
Austral Odyssey is outfitted for a crew of 31, with cabins, a mess and common areas. Haugsbakk highlights the social zones in the common areas as a particularly successful part of the project.
The layout allows crew members to do different things at the same time – watch TV or play cards, for example. Haugsbakk notes that the work on these zones goes all the way back to the design and planning phase, where creating an interior that genuinely works for the crew was a key priority.

In-house furniture production
Maritime Montering has its own furniture factory, producing hard furnishings such as wardrobes, beds and storage, as well as a dedicated production line for bathroom modules, walls, doors and ceilings. Soft furnishings are supplied by established manufacturers such as Brunstad and Ekornes.
This means Maritime Montering has full control over quality and progress, from initial concept drawings to finished interior.
— Our finished interiors look exactly as they did in the concept drawings. One of the biggest advantages of working with us is our furniture and interior solutions – they are built to withstand life at sea, while still providing real comfort for the crew, says Labudda.

The same standard — regardless of shipyard
Maritime Montering builds ship interiors around the world. More than 1,200 newbuilds are currently sailing with interiors from the company, alongside a large number of refit projects.
— Regardless of where we build, the same established processes are followed. Thorough preparation, approved drawings and detailed project specifications underpin a Maritime Montering standard that is always adhered to. That ensures consistent quality, regardless of shipyard, says Labudda.
Haugsbakk points to the company’s global presence as one of its greatest strengths.
— If you’re building in Turkey but have a question, you can speak to our staff in Norway, and we sort it out internally. Being able to draw on each other’s expertise and experience across all locations is a major advantage, she says.

Praise from the shipowner
So, the big question – is the shipowner happy with the result?
— Yes, we have received very positive feedback from Austral Fisheries on the delivery. The interior meets the high demands for durability, quality and functionality that the client set, says Labudda. Haugsbakk adds:
— Our impression is that the client is extremely pleased with the delivery and proud of their vessel. It was a long voyage back to Australia, but clearly worth it.

Launching a new furniture series at Nor-Fishing 2026
At this year’s exhibition, Maritime Montering is presenting its latest furniture collection for maritime environments: Stett Comfort. You can explore it in detail at stand D-391.
— The stand is designed with interiors from actual vessels, with a high level of detail and a realistic feel of being on board. Visitors can experience our interior solutions exactly as they look at sea. And of course, get a first look at our Stett Comfort series, says Haugsbakk.
Maritime Montering has been an exhibitor at Nor-Fishing for over 20 years. The company considers Nor-Fishing a vital arena, where they can meet both end clients and shipyards in the same place.
— We can plan meetings with existing customers and connect with new ones. There are very few other venues where we have that opportunity in quite the same way, Haugsbakk concludes.
You’ll find Maritime Montering at stand D-391.
