Norwegian shipyard Båtbygg has secured the mission of constructing a newbuild longliner for one of Australia’s largest commercial fishing companies. To outfit the vessel, Båtbygg appoints Maritime Montering Norway—signing the contract on the opening day of Nor-Fishing.
“It’s thrilling to have Austral Fisheries come all the way from Australia to Måløy to construct their new vessel Austral Odyssey,” says Stian Madsen, CEO of Maritime Montering, when Nor-Fishing visits the stand.
Austral Fisheries Ltd. is one of Australia’s largest commercial fishing companies. To ensure that the new vessel sails with the highest possible comfort, Maritime Montering will furnish both commercial and technical areas. The contract with Båtbygg was signed on the first day of the fair.
“For us, Nor-Fishing is the most important exhibition. Networking and relations are an integral part of this industry, and to come here in person and meet old friends and make new acquaintances is extremely important.”
Experts in ship furnishings
Founded in entrepreneur Odd Birkeland’s garage in the eighties, Maritime Montering has since outgrown its hometown Bjørvikstranda as the company now holds offices across the globe.
“We deliver everything within ship furnishings. In recent months, there has been an upsurge with several newbuilds and refurbishments at shipyards worldwide, and our concept seems to have hit the mark on the current demand from shipping companies,” Madsen explains.
Their concept is on display in Hall A, where the stand is furnished with the same flooring and furniture they use to outfit the vessels.
“We aim to create good workplaces for the crew and high-quality environments for the passengers by giving the interior the attention to detail it deserves.”
To be completed in 2025
“Austral Odyssey” will be used for deep-sea fishing for toothfish north of Antarctica. Its length exceeds 68 metres, and the vessel has a loading capacity of seven hundred tonnes, making it one of the largest and most advanced of its kind.
“We’re excited to have been chosen by Båtbygg for this project and look forward to working on it until its completion in 2025. Meanwhile, we are already looking forward to Nor-Fishing in 2026,” concludes Madsen.
